Mid December

Here’s some highlights from the RSPB reserve at Saltholme in mid December.

First, some Greylag Geese

Greylag Goose (Anser anser)

Mute Swans gliding gracefully over still waters.

Mute Swan (Cygnus olor)

A Little Egret

Little Egret (Egretta garzetta)

Some Curlew

Curlew (Numenius arquata)

and Snipe

Snipe (Gallinago gallinago)

A diving Little Grebe

Little Grebe (Tachybaptus ruficollis)

And Fieldfare in the trees

Fieldfare (Turdus pilaris)

Finally, soaring Starlings as they murmurate at dusk.

Starling (Sturnus vulgaris)
