Snow stops play

In addition to nature, there is also sport. Occasionally the two come together.

At the Stadium of Light, Sunderland play Arsenal (0-0, but very entertaining!).

The crowd shouts, a home to noisy humanity. But as soon as the stadium starts to empty, Herring Gulls appear from nowhere, and the great opportunists start to circle, looking for food left behind.

The next evening, and the first cricket match of the season. Your humble author scores these games. To all cricketers, especially English ones, rain stops play is a common cry. The game is suspended, as the teams and stumps come off for the duration. But snow stops play? That’s unusual.

The snow storm passes, and sun returns, with the snow falling on the hills in the distance.

A brooding black snow cloud passes overhead; the shades of Constable and Turner would approve.

The next morning, the snow showers continue.

Let us hope for more sunshine. This is the fifth time we’ve had snow this winter/spring.
