On a return journey from Burley to Cafe Twitch, via the A61, A59 & the A1, I see about 12 Red Kites, patrolling the roads and the fields covered in snow.

Red Kite (Milvus milvus)

When flying low, they appear to be very big. There appears to be a roost of them en route, based at Harewood House where they were reintroduced back into the wild in 1999. They seem not to stray much beyond the junction of the A59 & the A1 near Knaresborough. It’s only 15 or so miles as the Kite flies to reach the North Yorks Moors, where surely they would find more prey, but they don’t seem to have established an outpost yet.
