First Song 2016

First song, a Blackbird on 5th January, followed by a Song Thrush on 8th January.

This is a table of the dates I’ve first heard Thrushes singing, as a marker for the start of spring.

So this year is about the 7% percentile, and correlates well to the warm December we’ve just had.

  1. […] turned cold. They haven’t restarted as of yet. If I’d missed hearing the first song this year on January 5th, the date would be pushed back by about a month. Maybe the bird that started singing over a month […]
