A brief visit

A quick visit to the RSPB reserve at Saltholme yielded the following birds.

A Black-tailed Godwit in its red summer finery

Nearby, a female Shoveler duck, with its unmistakable bill.

and a Great Crested Grebe with chicks.

On Paddy’s pool, Common Terns are nesting.

Goldfinch, both juvenile

and adult were on the feeders at the Phil Stead Hide.

And by the visitors centre, Sand Martins, are nesting in their specially prepared bank.

Also on the lake before the visitors centre (seen but not photographed), a solitary Arctic Tern!

Not a bad haul of birds for a short visit!
