Soup And Starlings 2012

On the RSPB reserve at Saltholme this time of year, Soup and starlings events are held, where with a cup of soup, and a bun, you get to see the starlings fly in to roost in clusters.

They came initially in small groups

and sat on the electricity pylons near to the reed beds where they roost. Eventually, they took off and began to perform their murmuration

and they built up in numbers

Before reaching their maximum density.

They swirled, moving as only the murmuration can, steadily sinking down towards the reed beds.

Then they landed and the skies cleared.
